Spray Tan FAQS
1. Can I get a massage, my nails, or my hair done right after my tan?
Please handle all of your beauty appointments the day before so that your skin is completely cleansed and doesn’t have any residue that the tan can't adhere to.
2. Will I become orange?
A quality product applied properly will not turn orange. Orange comes mostly from lesser quality DHA (which you still see even today in certain brands of UV Free tanning lotions and automated tanning booths). Another contributing factor to receiving an orange tan is too much solution being applied or too strong of a solution being applied for your skin type. But at Glo Bar, we take the time to customize a color for each person and what will look best on them. We also only use high-grade products that are cruelty-free, as clean as can be, and hydrating.
3. Why isn’t the color as dark as I wanted it to be?
There are several variables that can affect the final color. For instance, did you prep correctly? Are you on an acne or anti-aging regimen? For ladies are you on your period? Hormones can play a huge part in your color as well. At Glo Bar, we strive to give you a perfect glow. But unfortunately, some things are out of our hands.
4. Can pregnant women be spray tanned?
As long as you have a note from your doctor we can tan you.
5. How do I make my tan last?
Moisturize! When your skin fades it’s the dead skin shedding off your body. Make sure to stay away from the ocean or a hot tub. These will make your tan fade faster. Also when you get out of the shower, make sure to pat your skin and not drag the towel.
6. How do I prepare for my tan?
Be sure to shower and exfoliate before your tanning session. Getting sprayed with clean skin is the key to a good tan. Do NOT use a moisturizing soap or body wash (especially Dove) before you tan. The reason for this is that anything moisturizing leaves a layer on the skin that the tanning solution won't penetrate through, and you won't get a good, even tan. Scrub your entire body well with either exfoliating gloves or a washcloth.
Shave at least 8 hours before your appointment. If you tan right after shaving, your pores may be wide open, and you may get little dots on your legs! If you must shave close to the time of your appointment, please make sure to splash cold water on the area to close your pores as much as possible.
Skin should be clean and dry before being sprayed. Don’t apply moisturizers, deodorants, antiperspirants, oils, or makeup before your tanning appointment. They can effect tan development. If you feel that you tend to sweat a lot without antiperspirant, you may wear a small amount so that you don't
Make sure to always book your tan last if you have other beauty appointments. Its preferable to do all your other beauty treatments at least 24 hours before. If you must get your nails done don’t have them put lotion on you.
7. What should I expect during my tan?
During your Glo experience, the Glo artist will go over a quick consult with you. We want to make sure we find the perfect color that you are looking for and what can be achieved. Next, we will prepare your skin with a Ph balancing prep spray along with a lotion to protect your hands and feet from collecting too much color. We will instruct you on the different positions we would like you to pose in. You will receive a beautiful color along with a mini contour if you so choose. After the tan, we make sure to fully dry you and finish your application with a talc-free powder to areas that tend to get sticky.
8. What do I need to do after my tan?
Make sure to stay away from any liquid coming into contact with your skin. This includes spilling water on yourself or letting a pet lick you. Also, make sure to wear loose-fitting clothing. You do not want any rubbing or friction on your skin while the tan is developing. If you received a standard tan please wait at least 9 hours before you rinse it off. If you decide to sleep in your tan, please wear a long sleeve t-shirt and pajama pants. This will help with you not touching your body while you sleep so your hands do not get solution on them.
Now, if by chance you know you always touch your face while sleeping put socks or mittens on your hands. The name of the game is to not have skin to skin contact while your tan is developing.
If you received a rapid tan, you may rinse off your tan in 1-4 hours, depending on how light or dark you want your color. DO NOT go more than four hours or you have a higher chance of turning orange. Your Glo artist will instruct you on the best time to rinse. Your first rinse should be without soap. Only use your hands and gently rub your body until the water runs clear. Do not worry about the color running down the drain it is only the temporary bronzer. If you received a rapid tan, it may look like your tan washed away but it is still developing and your color will come back in 8-12 hours.
9. Do I have to be nude to tan?
Please wear whatever makes you the most comfortable. We are professionals who will respect you and the vulnerable position you are in. Women may tan fully nude but men have to wear at minimum a thong.
10. How do I take off an old tan?
Your tan should last 5-10 days depending on the chemistry of your skin and your aftercare. When you get to the point where it's time to take the tan off, prepare yourself a hot bath and soak in it. You also want to scrub and exfoliate your body as well. We sell an amazing scrub to help with this.
11. I have hyperpigmentation, will a spray tan make it look darker?
Depending on how much pigmentation you have it may have the possibility to make it darker. During you’re appointment the glo artist may use a specialty pen to cover up areas of hyperpigmentation so the spray will not penetrate.
12. Do you tan men and women? Also I am staying at a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, do you charge extra for that?
Yes, we totally tan both women and men! On a side note we only tan men if they are booking with another woman or if we have worked with them before. And if you are staying on the strip we have to add a parking charge of $15. We wish we didn't but since we are being charged to park we have to charge you unfortunately.
13. Will it rub off on my clothes or bed sheets?
There is a chance of the cosmetic bronzers coming off on clothing and bed sheets. This should wash out very easily with soap and water. However, we always recommend that the client wear darker colored loose fitting clothes. There are some fabrics such as silk, nylon and especially leather that this may not wash out of, so caution is always recommended.
14. Can minors get spray tanned?
Yes, they can! If they are under 18 they must have a guardian sign the release form. If they are under 16 a guardian must be present during the tan session.
